From Losing Our Jobs to Building Litt Fitness: Our Journey as Business Partners (and a Couple)

We never planned on working together.
We never planned on starting a business.
And we definitely didn’t plan on building a gym from scratch in a city where we almost didn’t stay.

But life had other plans—and now, we couldn’t imagine it any other way.

The Unexpected Turn

In June 2024, we both lost our jobs at the same time. No warning. No backup plan. Just… done.

We were living in Raleigh, but with family and familiarity back in Massachusetts, we seriously considered packing it all up and heading home. It felt like the safe choice. The obvious one.

But deep down, we knew we weren’t ready to walk away. Not from the community we had started to build. Not from the dream that was quietly forming in the background.

So we stayed.

We stayed in Raleigh with no roadmap, no guaranteed income—just a garage, a few kettlebells, and a belief that we could build something better.

From Parking Lot Workouts to a Full Studio

That summer, we started coaching wherever we could. In the garage. In a parking lot. No mirrors, no fancy equipment—just movement, music, and heart.

People started showing up. Then coming back. Then bringing friends.

By September, we signed the lease on what would become the Litt Fitness studio. And on February 1, 2025, we officially opened our doors.

From Partners in Life to Partners in Business

We’ve been together for a long time, but working together added a whole new layer to our relationship.

We learned how to:

  • Divide responsibilities without stepping on each other’s toes

  • Support each other when the pressure hit (because owning a gym is a lot)

  • Communicate better than ever—because there’s no “clocking out” from this

  • Celebrate each win together, no matter how big or small

We also learned that fate kinda knew what it was doing. We balance each other out in all the right ways. And while it’s not always easy, it’s always worth it.

Litt Was Built on Love and Grit

Litt isn’t just a fitness studio. It’s the result of two people choosing to believe in something bigger when everything fell apart.

We didn’t build Litt to “be our own boss” or “chase success.” We built it to serve people. To create a space where everyone feels strong, seen, and supported. A place where fitness feels good—physically and emotionally.

And we’re just getting started.

If you’ve ever felt lost, stuck, or unsure where to go next—trust us, we’ve been there. You never know what can grow from rock bottom. Sometimes, the hard left turn is exactly what brings you home.
